Zoning Code Vote Delayed28 Sep

This article from the Denver Business Journal talks about the time line the Denver City Council has for the vote on the proposed new zoning code.  This change in the code with be the first comprehensive change to the code since 1956…. and its about time.  Anyone that is interested in development or infill development should read as much as they can about this new zoning code because it will definitely effect future development opportunities… good and bad.

The Denver City Council postponed deciding on a resolution that outlines the schedule for implementing the City and County of Denver’s new zoning code.

The council met Sept. 21 and postponed the adoption of Resolution No. 103 until Sept. 28.

The main reason for the delay is that Denver-area developers want more time to review the schedule, said Lauri Dannemiller, council executive staff director.

The proposed new zoning code, which has been in the works for several years, would replace Denver’s existing code. The current code was adopted in 1956, but since then has become a patchwork of incongruous zoning regulations and outdated, according to real estate experts and the city.

The updated, context- and form-based code, which is still in draft form, is being designed to support economic growth, a sustainable environment, housing diversity and strong neighborhoods, according to the city. The code is based on suggestions from Blueprint Denver, the city’s transportation and land-use plan adopted in 2002.
